Kendra Higgins, PT, DPT

Kendra received both her undergraduate BS in Exercise science (2009) and her Doctorate of Physical Therapy (2013) from the University of Montana. She prioritizes

evidence based therapeutic intervention to treat a vast array of pathology through the lens of a biopsychosocial approach. This approach acknowledges the complex interactions between an individual’s biology, psychology, and socio-environmental setting, and allows her to develop a unique and dynamic personalized plan of carefor every patient. Kendra also utilizes Pain Neuroscience Education (PNE), a novel evidence-based approach to treating pain that educates the patient on how pain is produced by the body. She integrates PNE into physical therapy techniques including mindfulness training, breath-work, graded exposure, pacing, mobility, endurance, and strengthening exercises to reduce neuropathic and chronic pain while optimizing movement and functional abilities. In her nine years of practice, Kendra has built extensive skills in a vast array of orthopedic specializations. She specializes in post-surgical, sports medicine, pelvic floor, chronic pain and injury, infants and pediatrics, gait and running analysis, and neurologic diagnoses. With all clients and diagnoses she prioritizes treating the whole patient. She takes pride in her ability to achieve strong trust and meaningful, productive relationships with her clients. One of her favorite medical quotes is from William Osler — “Listen to your patient; he is telling you the diagnosis.”

When she is not practicing at Progressive PT, she is working at Providence inpatient, as well as a local non-profit treating adults with chronic pain as well as children and infants. She is on the board of a local bicycle collective and enjoys leading weekly “ladies night” to provide bicycle education and support ridership to all members of our community. She is also proud to serve as vice president of a non-profit providing access to sailing education and experience for underrepresented populations. You can find Kendra arranging flowers, reading a novel, running, biking, or skate skiing in her free time.
